Blagdon Village Plan
The Plan - Young people in the village

Introduction

The Blagdon Parish Plan Committee was formed in 2004 to establish a plan for the village which might encourage local and county councillors to better understand the requirements of residents and to galvanise some improvement activity into the village we live. A similar exercise was undertaken in 1997 which resulted in a number of improvements to village life and it is hoped that the 2004 activity will result in the same.

From the committee a sub group was formed to look specifically at the requirements of young people in the village and to establish current likes and dislikes about their environment. Mike Follett, Steve Clements and Grahame Paine formed that group and over a short period undertook the following:

  • meetings with village groups run predominantly for children to ascertain views. The meetings followed a semi-structured interview, the full results of which can be found as appendix 1

  • a ‘snapshot survey’ where 100 cameras were distributed to the young people and they took photos of things they like and don’t like. The resultant photos have subsequently been donated to Blagdon History Society for their archive

  • a workshop drawing together photographic evidence and other activities to round off the involvement of young people

The results from these activities follow.
