Parish Council achievements 2006-7

As a Quality Council we are expected to publish details of our “achievements“ over the past year. The list follows but do contact the clerk if you have any questions or even suggestions for items we may have missed.

  • Following majority village support new byelaws for dogs on leads on Mead, Clennan and Rocks

  • Additional dog waste bins and plastic bags containers installed on key sites

  • Continuing environmental improvements to the Rocks

  • First steps to alter water course down Garston Lane. Further work to be done by North Somerset to reduce risk of flooding

  • Clean out of reeds and repair of Timswell to prevent water leakage.

  • Grit bins provided to key sites in village

  • All Grib Lane allotment plots allocated and being worked

  • Arrangements put in place to compost green waste from the Cemetery within the village (rather than take it to Weston)

  • We lead discussions with North Somerset Council over provision of low cost housing in Blagdon

  • Youth Bus visits weekly (thanks to Grahame Paine for his help)

  • Adoption of a Play Area strategy to assist grant requests

  • Erection of basketball net on the Mead

  • Safety fence around swings installed in Play Area to meet Health and Safety requirements

  • Funding of PFA requirements to maintain Mead football/rugby pitches

  • We gained Quality Council status (one of only six councils in North Somerset)

  • We supported the clerk’s work to obtain Cilca qualification

  • Blagdon precept increase of just 4% over 2006/7 charge to cover increases in insurance/maintenance contract/administration costs and clerk’s salary

  • Parish finances within budget for fifth year running

  • Our accounts commended by internal and external audits

  • North Somerset Council adopts our proposals re outgoing mail resulting in £20,000 of savings for North Somerset Council tax payers from 2007/8

  • We continue our financial support for the Blagdon website

  • Airport survey carried out

  • Publication to all households on top tips to help the environment

  • Increase in delivery fees for Blagdon Views to include payment to both local Guides and Scouts

  • Four Issues of Blagdon Views delivered to houses in Blagdon

  • Annual village survey completed and responses published

  • Erection of tree and more Christmas lights around Village Club
