Kerbside Collections

There is a fortnightly kerbside collection for recycleable materials. The scheme is run by North Somerset Council who have provided green boxes in which to place our recyclables. Blagdon's collections occur on Mondays - a calendar is available to download from www.n-somerset.gov.uk/recycling.

If you do not have a box and would like to take part in the scheme you can order one by calling Streets & Open Spaces helpline 01934 888802 giving your full address details and telephone number.

Holiday collections

Apart from the Christmas Bank Holidays, kerbside collections usually continue on the normal day. Where collections are affected by Christmas they continue on the next scheduled fortnightly visit.

Collection places

Please place your box by the kerb so the crew and lorry have easy access. If you have a disability which prevents you from placing the box at kerbside, please call 01934 888802.

It is recommend that you mark your box with your house number in order that you can identify your box after collection has been made.

Please ensure that your box is out for collection by 7.30am on the day of collection.

• Flats & maisonettes
  Please present your box at the front of the property next to the road where the lorry can gain access.
• Pathways
  If the front of your property is down a pathway away from the road - please present your box at the end of the path nearest the road, or alternatively, at the rear of your property e.g.: the communal garage area.
• Private roads & driveways
  Please present your box at the end of the private road or driveway next to the main road where the lorry can gain access.
• Narrow roads & lanes
  Please present your box at the end of your road or lane where the lorry can gain access.

Collecting materials

Accepted for collection:

• Paper
  all types of paper, newspapers, magazines, brochures and catalogues.
• Glass
  bottles and jars (washed with caps removed).
• Cans
  steel or aluminium e.g. food and drink cans (please wash and squash). Aluminium foil can also be placed in the box but must be washed.
• Textiles
  clothes, curtains etc - dry and in a bag
• Shoes
  tied in pairs

The following cannot be accepted:

• plastic - due to bulk
• cardboard - packaging such as cereal boxes etc
• greeting cards
• window envelopes
• aerosol spray canisters

Separating the materials

Please do not put your paper, glass and cans in plastic bags, as there is nowhere on the vehicle to store the 1000's of bags which would be collected.

Please place the paper at the bottom of the box, if you have shredded paper please put this into a bag (paper if possible) and make sure it is securely fastened. Follow this with glass on top on one side, so that the cans can be placed on the other side (this will help weight the paper down). Any textiles or shoes can be placed on the top in its bag. It does not matter if rain wets the paper, glass or cans.
